Kosdown Solar a Winner
About 18mths ago Kosdown undertook a large scale solar installation comprising a 62kW photo voltaic roof panel system together with a Three Phase 50Kwp Inverter. Our Aim was to lessen our environmental impact, and we have. The results are in and we’re proud to say the investment has paid off.
In about a year and a half Kosdown has generated 94.9 MWh of its own power and has achieved a carbon offset of 176.20 metric tonnes. This offset is the equivalent of what 37 acres of pine forest would achieve. Putting it in terms that all Australians would understand: 37 acres is roughly the size of 11 MCG’s!
Kosdown have been committed to sustainable printing long before it became a talking point. To us sustainable printing is more than just being environmentally aware, it also makes economic sense and is a smarter way to do business. We were one of the first in Australia, and indeed the first in Victoria to introduce water- and chemical-free plate making. This technology offers immense water savings of over 150,000 litres a year. It is also safer for our staff and the environment.
We are one of only a handful of printers in Australia to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), a global, not-for-profit organisation that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.
Further to that we are also Waste Wise certified (Victorian Department of Sustainability), with 97% of our waste being recycled or reused, and are part of ECO-Buy, a government funded organisation that supports the purchasing of green products. And we buy 90% of our paper in bulk lots and warehouse it on site, massively reducing CO2 emissions from deliveries and resulting in both cheaper and more environmentally friendly print runs. In the past we have been winners of the City of Port Phillip Business Excellence Award for Environmental Sustainability.
So now we’re proud to add our successful solar installation to our list of environmental credentials, and we will continue to embrace and strive to develop further environmentally sustainable practices for the benefit of everyone’s future. Environmentally sustainable printing? We think so.
