Sustainability in Print
Sustainable Australian Printing & Manufacturing
We have been committed to sustainable printing long before it became a talking point. To us sustainable printing is more than just being environmentally aware, it also makes economic sense and is a smarter way to do business.
We were one of the first in Australia, and indeed the first in Victoria to introduce water and chemical free plate making, a technology which offers immense water savings of over 150,000 litres a year. It is also far safer for our staff and the environment. In addition we use 100% vegetable and soy based inks, again eliminating the need for harmful (and expensive) chemicals.
We are one of only a handful of printers in Australia to be fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) an international organisation that encourages paper mills to find solutions to problems created by bad forestry practices and rewards good forest management.
Further to that 97% of our waste is recycled or reused, and our ethical sourcing policy ensures we support the purchasing of green products, and our buying 90% of our paper in bulk lots and warehousing it on site, massively reducing CO2 emissions from deliveries and resulting in both cheaper and more environmentally friendly print runs.
We are proud to say we have been winners of the CitiPower City of Port Phillip Business Excellence Award for Environmental Sustainably and we continue to embrace and strive to develop further environmentally sustainable print practices for the benefit of everyone’s future.
Our Sustainability History
We were passionate about sustainability before it became fashionable and it is our sustainable history that still drives us forward. The environment has been and always will be one of our core pillars. Our pioneering introduction of water and chemical free plate making, our use of vegetable and soy based inks and our constant audit to reduce the need for harmful chemicals will never cease as technology evolves.
Our adoption of the FSC certification was trail blazing and we are still proud members of the FSC, annually renewing our commitment. Our waste recycling will never abate and we will always strive to be the flagship of sustainability printing in Australia.
FSC Certification
We are one of only a handful of printers in Australia to be fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC).
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is an international organisation that encourages paper mills to find solutions to problems created by bad forestry practices and reward good forest management. The FSC® Chain of Custody (CoC) means the paper you use has been traced from environmentally sustainable forest logging, to paper mill right through to your finished product.
Using an FSC® certified paper is a great way to reduce your environmental impact without any additional cost. Please speak to David Downie about printing your next job using FSC® certified papers.
Our Ink Saves Water
We were the first in Victoria to introduce water and chemical free plate making, a ground breaking technology which saves up to 150,000 litres of water a year and is far safer for our staff and the environment.
We will continue to embrace water saving technology and develop further water saving print methods to cope with Australia’s unpredictable climate change future.
Kosdown went big on solar in 2020
We installed a massive solar array some years ago at the start of 2020. Kosdown is now returning more power to the grid than we use, even when running at machine capacity. It’s just one of the ways that what’s good for the environment is also good business.
